This watercolor measures 12" x 18.5." The wall is accurately painted. The surrounding trees were dense and needed opening up in the painting. More interesting buildings were added. I have nicknamed this painting Michelangelo's Wall. I know Michelangelo worked as an engineer of the wall around Florence. I have not verified if my photo of this wall was actually a remnant of the original wall. This painting won first place for watercolors in the Arts By the Shore show (2014) sponsored by the Oak Island Art Guild (Oak Island, NC).

EYE OF GOD & BUTTERFLY
In preparation for a painting I used Photoshop Elements to create the digital image of the Helix Nebula (aka The Eye of God) and a painted lady butterfly. A friend has used butterfly images to remind her of a daughter who has passed away. Here the Eye of God watches over a butterfly in the deep reaches of the cosmos.

PAINTED LADY
This watercolor/gouache painting is 10.5 x 14 inches. Although it looks like fanciful doodling, I spent a great deal of time thinking about shapes, color, contrast, and relationships. Basically this was an exercise in abstract design. At times, I just put something down and then had to figure out the next step. Next time I will try establishing my big shapes first and then build from there.
